With the increasing health problems among the people, doctors over
the globe are becoming busier and have no time to maintain the
patient’s data. Due to the technological growth, it has become
possible for them to outsource their transcription work to a third
party renowned for providing medical transcription services. The
doctors and other medical professionals need to dictate the
medical records to be transcribed by a third company. The
transcription may cover everything from patient history and
physical reports to clinic and office notes, operative reports,
consultation notes, to discharge summaries, letters, psychiatric
evaluations, laboratory reports, x-ray reports and pathology
reports and other similar kinds of medical records.
Medical transcription begins with the receiving of dictation via
tape, digital system or voice data file which is converted and
recorded into a dedicated server on a real time basis. Even toll
free telephone lines are used for this purpose. Doctors can
dictate the message on the designated number.
The outsourcing company has to connect to this server to download
any fresh dictation left by customer organizations/doctors. The
download can be done through a high speed data link (preferably
Internet or ISDN link of 128 kbps or above). The medical
transcription service providers then retrieve the sound files and
routes them to different workstations for transcription. During
transcription earphones and a foot pedal for start-stop control
are used. Different types of word processors are used depending
upon the nature of the transcription.
India is most suited for Medical Transaction Services because:
